Scott Reid: “Stand by Our Allies”

March 21, 2003

Ottawa – Scott Reid, Member of Parliament for Lanark-Carleton, stands by Canada’s traditional allies.

“Throughout its history, Canada has stood against tyranny and totalitarianism.” Reid said. “It is part of our values to come forward when called upon to help others in their time of need. As a country we are fortunate to have friends and allies who have been there with us during these troubling times. There are instances when we have been there for them and there are instances where we have led the way.”

Under this Liberal government, we have become more dependent than ever on our allies. Dependent culturally, economically, and militarily. The insecure anti-Americanism of this government has led us to the point where we find ourselves isolated from our friends and allies, in a dangerous world.

Reid expressed his discouragement that under this government we have become a country that uses its allies and rejects them at will. He stated that this does not reflect Canada’s history or values.

The Liberal government has consistently acted without vision or values during this crisis. “I suppose our British and American allies in their hour of greatest need. I am ashamed that Prime Minister Chretien has abandoned our allies when they need us most.” Reid stated.
