Scott Reid & Mayor Schermerhorn Announce Federal Support for Area Road Construction

May 19, 2009

Napanee – Greater Napanee Mayor Gord Shermerhorn joined local MP Scott Reid today at Town Hall to announce that the federal government has agreed to commit over $1,000,000 to make improvements to County Road 41 and more than $600,000 to reconstruct Bridge Street West.

“County Road 41 is in need of some very important improvements,” said Reid. “Safety upgrades, widening, and pavement improvements will ensure the continued usability and improved safety of that road for the area far into the future.”

Additionally, Bridge Street West will also undergo a reconstruction scheduled to be completed by October 1st this year with this federal assistance.

The funds to support the reconstruction of Bridge Street West and County Road 41 are part of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Economic Action Plan to provide immediate stimulus to kick-start the Canadian economy.

The Economic Action Plan was introduced earlier this year in the 2009 federal budget. It is a $12 billion investment that is expected to create thousands of jobs in construction nationwide while revitalizing Canada’s roads, bridges, highways and municipal infrastructure.

Reid stated, “I am pleased to see this project move forward and see Napanee benefit from the government’s economic stimulus plan.”

Building improved infrastructure in places like Napanee will stimulate the economy of today and provide real value to everyone for years to come.
