Reid Endorses Forsey Proposal for Sign Moratorium

December 5, 2005

Carleton Place, ON- Local MP and Conservative Candidate Scott Reid today endorsed an NDP proposal that election signs not be placed on public property in Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington during the 2005 / 2006 election campaign.

“I think that Helen Forsey is onto something with this proposal,” Reid stated. “It’s wintertime, the ground is frozen, and signs along the roadside are likely to be broken or damaged, or else lost in the snow, leading to roadside litter when the snow melts in the spring.”

“Helen’s proposal would allow signs to be displayed on private homes and businesses, and that’s fine with me,” Reid noted.

Reid admitted that it would be difficult to resist the pressure to put up signs on public property if any of the major parties starts doing so unilaterally. “But the Conservatives won’t be the first party to start erecting signs on public property,” he declared.
