MP Reid’s “Buy Canadian Beef” Campaign Gains Momentum Over 1000 Signs Distributed

September 24, 2003

Carleton Place – As Canadian Beef farmers struggle through the fourth month of trade restrictions the Buy Canadian Beef campaign continues to grow.

Over 1000 Buy Canadian Beef signs have been distributed to date with more orders being filled each day.

“The response to the campaign is a testament to the way that average Canadians care about their neighbours.” Scott Reid commented. “The interest in the Buy Canadian Beef signs at the IPM was just amazing.

Now that autumn has arrived, cattle will not be able to be left out on pasture much longer.

Reid stated “As it stands right now, many area beef farmers will be facing a bleak winter. I know that Canadians want to do everything they can to help our beef farmers. The most effective thing they can do is to buy more Canadian beef. Whether at the restaurant or in the meat department, many consumers assume the beef they are buying is Canadian. The only way to be certain is to ask. If each Canadian eats just one more pound of Canadian beef it will increase demand by 50,000 head of cattle.”

The best way to support Canadian beef producers is to buy more Canadian beef. If you would like to show your support for our beef farmers by purchasing a $3 Buy Canadian Beef lawn sign or $1 bumper sticker contact Scott Reid’s office.

The fee for the signs and bumper stickers is to recover the cost so more can be produced.
