Local MP Launches ‘Hershey Pledge’ Campaign

March 19, 2007

Ottawa – Local MP Scott Reid has recently initiated an internet campaign to keep the Smiths Falls Hershey’s plant open. The campaign, at www.hersheypledge.ca, is designed to promote Hershey’s products that are specifically manufactured in Smiths Falls.

“The Hershey Pledge campaign gives the community a chance to get involved. It is a way for us to send a positive sign to Hershey’s that we want them to stay in Smiths Falls.”

By taking the “Hershey Pledge”, concerned citizens commit to buying chocolate products that are made locally – demonstrating support for the Smiths Falls Hershey’s plant and its employees. The website also includes a list of confectionery products – ranging from Oh Henry bars to dessert fondue – that are manufactured at the Smiths Falls plant.

Any person who visits the hersheypledge.ca website and registers his or her email address will be sent an email reminder to purchase Smiths Falls-produced confectionery products prior to key chocolate-giving occasions, such as Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Halloween.

“Hershey’s has been here for 44 years. Now more than ever, we need to send the message that there is a rewarding advantage to calling Smiths Falls ‘home’,” Reid concluded.
