Liberals Continue to Fail Canadian Farmers

July 16, 2003

Scott Reid, MP for Lanark-Carleton, joins his colleague Howard Hilstrom today in denouncing the Prime Minister for going to London, England for the weekend while a delegation of Canadian Alliance MPs went to Washington to try to lift the US beef ban.

“Prime Minister Jean Chretien is drinking champagne cocktails in London, while the Canadian Alliance tackles the US beef ban, said Canadian Alliance MP Howard Hilstrom.

Scott Reid agrees that it was downright neglectful for the Prime Minister to fly overseas for the “Progressive Governance Summit” in Europe while Canadian beef still cannot cross the American border, and Candian farmers are suffering. Good governance begins at home, and it starts with being there for Canadians when you’re needed.

While the Prime Minister was overseas, it was a delegation of Canadian Alliance MPs, led by Stephen Harper, who went to Washington, D.C. to meed with Congressmen and Administration officials, trying to get the border re-opened to Canadian beef. “Isn’t that a job for our government? Or have those bridges been burned so badly that the Liberals are no longer received in Washington?” wonders Reid.
