Scott Reid is the Member of Parliament for Lanark-Frontenac. He was first elected in November 2000.

Scott was elected chairman of the Conservative parliamentary caucus in November, 2021. He previously served as the Shadow Minister (or opposition critic) for Democratic Institutions (2015-2018), Deputy Opposition House Leader (2015-2016), and Deputy Government House Leader (2006-2015).

He also served as the chairman of the subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development (2008-2015).

Call on the PM to Raise the Issue of Tibet

OTTAWA – Scott Reid, MP (Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington), Tenzin Dargyal, Director (Canada Tibet Committee) and Bloc MP Roger Clavet (Louis-Hébert) met on the on the eve of Paul Martin’s first visit to China as Prime Minister, to call on the PM to raise the issue of Tibet when he meets with the Chinese leadership next week. Along with letters from 159 other Members of Parliament, Mr. Reid presented an open letter to the Prime Minister asking him to encourage talks between China and the exiled Dalai Lama to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the Tibet issue.

Mr. Reid has had a long-standing interest and involvement in human rights issues, starting back after he was first elected in 2000 when he began speaking out against the persecution facing Falun Gong practitioners in China. Since his involvement, dozens of practitioners with ties to Canada have been freed and permitted to come to Canada if they chose to do so.
