On emergency law in Canada, generally & related to COVID-19
March 29, 2020For a primer on emergency law in Canada, Dr. Craig Forcese and Leah West have made available THIS CHAPTER from their forthcoming book on national security law in Canada.
Dr. Forcese, with assistance from Hannah Diegel, is also updating a repository of Canadian COVID-19 emergency orders, both at the federal and provincial levels, HERE.
Earlier in the week, I posted my own summaries with links of the federal Emergencies Act, which has NOT been activated but received substantial commentary, and the federal Quarantine Act, under which nine orders (at time of writing) have been promulgated since February 3, 2020 relating to COVID-19. You can find those orders, and others related to COVID-19, linked to at the repository noted above.
The federal Justice department has also posted a tracker of federal orders and regulations related to COVID-19, HERE.
